Charles and Housatonic Updates

HOCR Training Camp

This previous weekend, the Aggies experienced a pleasant change of scenery as they took to the historic Charles River in Boston, launching out of Community Rowing Inc.

We welcomed back nine recent graduates, a powerful Alumni 8+ lineup consisting of Mae Naron '16, Eddy Mog '14, Stephen Beaumont '18, Dong Yeop Shin '14, Sam Chiburis '18, Bryan Cohoon '14, Alex Russian '14, Nick Carter '14, and Jake Savona '18. These new Aging Aggies challenged our own varsity 8+ to a brief, 25 stroke piece and fortunately no blood was spilled.

The Aggies capped off the weekend with a Head of the Charles simulation piece, in order to familiarize the coxswains with every turn necessary to shave valuable seconds off the course.

Updates

Coming up on October 6th, we have the Head of the Housatonic down in Indian Well State Park, Connecticut. It’s the perfect opportunity to flex the work we’ve put in thus far, lining up against some familiar crews such as UConn, Coast Guard, and Marist.

This 3 mile rite of passage has been described as “the most painful race of the year” by captain Jeremy Hall: “Everything burns by 2000 meters in, and then you realize you’re less than halfway there.” This weekend will be a great opportunity to introduce our new varsity members to collegiate level racing.

We have two entries in event #22, the Collegiate 8+, and one entry in event #45, the Collegiate 4+.
