Welcome to the Grind

Welcome to the 2018-19 iteration of UMass Men's Rowing, a team looking to continue the success of the past few years. After graduating over a dozen seniors, losing an assistant coach, and finishing in the grand finals at ACRA, many would expect a downward trend.

Not this team.

This team is larger, fitter, and feistier than before. We have a young new executive board, new captains, two new coaches and enough fuel in the fire to compete at an even higher level this year.

This year we promote Carl Brasch and Jeremy Hall as co-captains, Bob "Bullet" Englehardt and old friend Mike Plummer as coaches, and an e-board equal part underclassmen and upperclassmen.

Senior Ekim Otucu returns for his second year as e-board member, along with junior Matt Hobbes, but the rest are all fresh: juniors Jake Calkins & Gavin Isbell and sophomores Joe Wenzel & Andrew Hartnett.

In all, the team is in better shape than ever both in terms of number of bodies and leadership, all looking for even more success.

Along with this new year, we are introducing a few changes. Rent-a-rower signups are now easier to do, right from the webpage. We are introducing a better fundraising system, more information for alumni, more job opportunities, an entirely new dock and a new website.

The goal this year is to be posting more information, including a more detailed schedule, more frequent website posts for races and events, and have more alumni communication. Here's to a more action packed season!

Interested in joining?
