Knecht Cup 2025
On the weekend of April 12th-13th, the Aggies took a trip down to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, to compete in the Knecht Cup two-day Regatta. The Aggies showed out with a Varsity 4+, Varsity 4x, Varsity 2-, and two Novice 4+. Bringing home some hardware, the Aggies had a successful first national regatta for their spring season and continue to build with every race.
For this Knecht Cup Regatta, the Aggies competed in the Men’s Varsity Pair, Men’s Club Four-Division I, Men’s Frosh/Novice Four, and Men’s Varsity Quad. The weather on the Cooper River was brisk, as the first day of racing, Saturday, featured some rain and cloudy conditions, and following suit, Sunday was just as gloomy, without any precipitation. Both days featured a crosswind with gusts up to 20 mph.
As this was a two-day regatta, Saturday had some of the Aggie boats competing in heats.
1V4+: 3rd
The Varsity 4+, showed right, featuring Jonathan Shi(Coxswain), Samuel Sturdy(stroke), James Burnham(3), Luka Lasic(2), and Gage Lane(bow), placed 1st in their heat of 6 boats, propelling them to the Grand Finals. They would go on to place 3rd in the very tough Grand Final, where every boat improved by 20 seconds, showing the intensity of the race.
1N4+: 6th
Next, the first Novice 4+, featuring Chad Zannotti(Coxswain), Ryan Greenwood(stroke), Adam Post-Montjoie(3), Graham Schwendt(2), and Quinn Keating(bow), raced to the fourth-best time in the Novice 4+ heats, allowing them to place themselves in the Grand Final, where they took 6th in a very sound field.
2N4+: 8th
The next Novice 4+, showed left, featuring Datya Kurzban(Coxswain), Anders Borger(stroke), Ryan O’Meara(3), Ryan Tessitore(2), and Kayan Volpe(bow) placed 4th in their heat and then improved by over 30 seconds from their heat to the Petite Final to place second in the Petite Final.
With that, we move to the boats with a smaller number of entries in their categories, launching them right into the finals.
V2-: 2nd
Starting the racing on Sunday, the 2-, showed right, composed of Max Johnson(stroke) and Brandon Burns(bow) raced to a second-place finish, earning silver.
V4x: 2nd
To wrap up the racing, the Varsity 4x, showed left, featuring Luke Shamaly(stroke), Daniel Smith(3), Robert Mottau(2), and Brandon Burns(bow), took home silver in the finals.
