Aggies complete round-robin trip to Tufts

Massachusetts squared off against three of the top squads in New England (Tufts, Bates, and Wesleyan) on Saturday in a forgettable day of competition. Racing four boats in three events on the Malden River where Tufts hosted the round-robin matchups. 

Conditions were rather pleasant throughout the day. Temperatures settled into the mid-50’s with a slight overcast throughout the morning. On the course there was a cross tail wind that died down as the day went on, along with some rough water towards the start of the course.

The 1V started off the day with a 6:04.2 mark against Wesleyan who beat UMass by five seconds. In their second race, the first varsity eight fell to Bates, but were able to improve on their previous time by about a second. 

Meanwhile, the second varsity eight went up against Wesleyan and Bates as well, but weren’t able to win either matchup. They finished the race with Wesleyan in a time of 6:26.4 and went 6:28.3 in the second race.

The Aggies 3V and novice eight competed with each other in the first of their races on the day. The novices won the race and earned themselves a trip to the finals, but unfortunately lost to a fast Tufts 3V, yet were still able to finish the course in a solid 6:30.3. The third varsity eight finished their final race in 6:42.0 against Bates. 

Next up, UMass looks to get things back on track Saturday when the team travels to UConn to take on Vermont. Racing will take place at Patriot Park in Coventry, Connecticut.
