UMass takes three out of four races at UConn

By Sean Richardson

After a disappointing day of racing at Tufts the previous weekend, Massachusetts bounced backed at UConn on Saturday by winning three out of their four events. Vermont was also in attendance and had a boat in the first and third varsity-eight category.

Conditions became progressively worse as the morning went on, in terms of wind and rain. However, the water still remained relatively flat for each race.

The 1V took care of business in the morning’s first event, pacing the field by nearly four seconds en route to a 6:21.8 mark. Meanwhile, the second varsity eight continued to struggle and fell to a vastly improved UConn crew.

UMass’s novice eight was able to continue their impressive track record by winning their event with a time of 6:52.4. Rounding out things for the Aggies was the 3V who dominated their event and won by nearly twenty seconds, coming in at 7:00.0 flat .

This Saturday, the Aggies will travel back to Lake Quinsigamond to compete at the McGee Cup against WPI, Boston College, and Coast Guard. The cup race will also be crucial for seeding at the New England Championships the following week.
