Aggies start strong to their championship season
Massachusetts opened their championship season Saturday with the New England Regional Championships in Worcester. The squad fielded four boats, sending three to the grand finals, and earning bronze medals in the third and fourth varisity eight categories. UMass finished fifth overall in team points which surpassed last year’s finish of sixth, overall.
UMass takes three out of four races at UConn
After a disappointing day of racing at Tufts the previous weekend, Massachusetts bounced backed at UConn on Saturday by winning three out of their four events. Vermont was also in attendance and had a boat in the first and third varsity-eight category.
Aggies conclude weekend with victories across the board in Lowell
The Aggies concluded their weekend of racing in Lowell Sunday with the first-ever New England State University Regatta. UMass had a clean sweep, winning all four of their events against the other state schools. (Boston College also raced several boats, but competed merely for exhibition.)
Spring is Here!
Massachusetts ended their five month racing hiatus Saturday, competing at the Class of 2003 cup on Lake Quinsigamond. UMass raced four eights in three different categories against Hamilton, Wesleyan, Colby, and host, WPI. Ultimately, it was Wesleyan who took home the cup after winning the first and second varsity eights events.
Fun with the Fish
The Massachusetts men’s rowing varsity team concluded their fall racing campaign Saturday at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga, New York.
But, what should have been a jam-packed day of racing for the Aggies was cut short by inclement weather that included consistent, strong rain, excessively choppy waters, regular gusts of wind over thirty miles per hour, and temperatures that danced around the freezing point all day.
Aggies have busy weekend at 54th Head of the Charles
It was a lively weekend for the Massachusetts men’s rowing team, as the varsity team raced three boats across Saturday and Sunday at the 54th Head of the Charles regatta in Boston. In addition, multiple alumni shells competed under the ”Aging Aggies Rowing Club” title.
UMass Builds Momentum Leading up to Head of the Charles
Coming off an impressive day of racing in Shelton, CT last weekend, the Aggies defended their home course at Saturday’s Hadley chase. Racing four boats (three eight’s and one four) in the frigid rain and winning the men’s collegiate eight event. It was also the first race of the year for the Aggies novice team.
Massachusetts Begins Fall Racing Schedule
The Aggies kicked off their fall racing campaign with the Head of the Housatonic in Shelton, Connecticut this past Saturday. Massachusetts looked to carry over momentum from last May’s strong showing at the ACRA National Championships (placing 7th, surpassing their previous best of 11th in the nation) proving that, even after graduating over ten seniors from last season, they are still one of the top dogs in the Northeast.
NERC Notes
Close, but no cigar. At the New England Regional Championships, the UMass Men fought hard and long but ended up just 0.2 seconds away from a strong third place finish in the V8 grand final. The 2V8 also found themselves in the grand final, and just edged out WPI for a fifth place finish.
McGee Cup Results
Another strong day of racing for the UMass men. With an slight headwind under 10mph, the V8, 2V8 and 3V8 battled it out against Boston College, Coast Guard, and WPI.
